 Memorial's Mission Statement

At Memorial Elementary School we will provide a nurturing environment to promote the individual growth of the whole child while developing lifelong learners and community leaders.

We envision a school where:

  • High expectations are maintained for staff and students.
  • Students are empowered to safely learn from their own mistakes.
  • Staff and parents collaborate to foster a home-school connection.
  • Staff models passionate life-long learning and strong character.
  • Students are inspired to persevere and achieve personal success.

Welcome to Memorial Elementary. It is my pleasure to be Memorial's Principal and to get to work with the fabulous students, staff members and parents in the Memorial community.
This is my 9th year working for the Valparaiso Community Schools, and my 34th year in education. Prior to coming to Memorial, I was a principal and assistant principal for the School City of Hobart. Before taking on administrative roles, I  taught math, science and technology at Hobart Middle School and worked as a special education teacher for the Northwest Indiana Special Education Cooperative.  I have a Master's Degree in Supervision and Administration from Indiana State University and received my Bachelor's Degree in Elementary Education from Valparaiso University.

I am married and have two daughters.  In my free time I like to golf, read, cook, garden and spend time with my family.  We love to play games together and enjoy other family activities. We have two dogs and I love playing with them as well.

I believe that students need to feel safe and respected in order to learn. It is my goal, as the school principal, to create a safe and effective learning environment where students are engaged and excited learners as they become college and career ready.  Positive relationships between all school stakeholders is a key to maximize student success. Please feel free to contact me to ask questions and share ideas. I look forward to another great year at Memorial for the 2019-2020 school year.
